Party of 4 on 7/3. Reservations worked. That's about it however. Like many reviews service was extremely slow. Guy behind the bar really no help to wait staff. I had the calamari and oysters which were really good. One liked the vegan crab cakes other did not. Med pizza was a hit. Probably would not go back due to fact they still have not gotten act together on timely service.

Quite possibly the best vegan food I've ever had. Get the tofu lettuce wraps as an appetizer. The "egg salad" is the most accurate faux egg salad ever.

I just had the most delicious lunch at Urban Vegan Cafe. I am vegetarian, but not vegan, and am also gluten-free so was pleasantly surprised at the huge variety of items available to choose from! From the delightful outdoor ambience to the delicious food - it was a wonderful lunch! I had trouble choosing what to order, but ended up with the Four Burger Sampler with a side of Apricot Almond Coleslaw. The sampler included four burgers on a bed of lettuce: black bean, lima bean, white bean, and beet - each with their own condiment sauce on top. Also on the platter came a fabulous quinoa/black bean combo with a delicious smoky dried tomato tasting drizzle on top. The side of coleslaw was fresh and tasty. I will definitely recommend this restaurant - and will be definitely going back to try the rest of the menu items! My lunch companion was not vegetarian or vegan so she chose her meal from the seafood side of the menu. After tasting mine, she said she would definitely try the vegan menu next time. We were both happy.

Our waiter, Joe, was super friendly and set up heat lamps for us because it was a bit windy. When my girlfriend was still cold, he even went so far as to bring her a nice fuzzy blanket. She loved the lavender chocolate cake. The blackbean quinoa was fantastic with tons of flavor. My friend got the vegan crabcakes which we all tried and they were really good. I had the Sloppy Joe which got better with each bite. We had a great time and this place is a must for any veggie/vegans visiting the area.

Awesome! Even my non-vegan friend loved it. Service, food and atmosphere all wonderful. The chef came out to share a sample of one of the dishes we ordered to make sure the seasoning was just right (we adjusted the spices slightly). But who does that? Amazing to get such in-depth, personal attention to detail.

The food OK. Four of us ate here tonight. The restaurant is co-located with a seafood restaurant, Captain Fishy, for anyone not wanting Vegan Food. The Sloppy JoJo was acceptable, The four burger bonanza was good and the Veggie Wrap was OK. Sweet potato fries were good as was the lima bean hummas. The waitress was new and had to return to the table to clarify our order. The chairs were plastic and flimsy, as were the tables. Overall, we would probably not return here, especially since the seafood was awful, but I doubt the restaurant, which was empty on a Summer Thursday will still be here next year.

I really can't believe that anyone likes this restaurant. I was on vacation and searching for a vegan lunch, and this place got pretty good reviews. Why?? The server was verrrry slow, the food was INEDIBLE, and the ambiance was nonexistent. I ordered a black bean burger which was super dry and had a strange chemical taste to it, with a side of quinoa which tasted rancid. My husband wouldn't even touch his lasagna, and after just a few bites of our respective meals, we both had stomach aches all afternoon. I would NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant, period.

VERY disappointed. Food and service were horrible. If some of your party orders from Captain Fishy's (also part of this establishment), know that their good will come out at least 15 minutes before your vegan meal. Quinoa had a pool of water in the bottom of the bowl, eggless egg salad was extremely salty. Server apologized for everything, but said he couldn't say anything to the chef "since he's the owner and then I'll get fired".

This place is truly amazing. SOO good! If you are vegan, or maybe veggie curious, or maybe even a full blown meat eater...you will LOVE this new restaurant! And the staff is super friendly. I recommend the vegan crab cakes and the vegan chocolate cake. Try it, you won't be disappointed. I'm definately coming back!

Meh. Food was mediocre, service was bad. Had cauliflower pop pops-ok, but nothing exciting. Took forever to get the veggie lasagna-guess they overcooked it the first time. Had a roasted veggie sandwich-the bread was the best part. Inattentive service, but I don't think it was malicious-just not good. Brought sweet potato fries instead of the requested slaw for a side. I can say that the cornbread was very good, but that's not enough to bring me back again. Probably a good concept, just poor execution. Maybe Sunday evening isn't a good time for them.

Amazing vegan food on the island. I was so excited when I found this place. It has a full menu...trouble picking. We had the pop pop Cali = amazing!, eggless salad = great, sloppy Joe = eh. Great atmosphere, friendly owner. Will return!

Wow! The vegan crab cakes are awesome. During my stay in Hilton Head, I have fallen in love with this place. The cornbread is to die for. The eggless egg salad rocks. Everything on the menu is great. Such a treat. I met the lovely lady named Paige who prepares these great things and she was just as awesome as her food. Highest recommendation!

This was such a huge disappointment... The food is way over priced, it takes super long and has no real flavor. The portion size was really small for the price. Long story short I left here feeling robbed and disappointed. I am an extremely optimistic person, however this place was over promised and under delivered. The only reason there's 2 stars is because the server was friendly. Hilton head is beautiful but the vegan options are extremely limited and to finally find a "vegan" cafe only to arrive to such a let down was really bad.

Vegan restaurant on Hilton Head? Yes, folks, and a very good one, too. Unfortunate location but otherwise Urban Vegan offers some of the best vegan fare I've had anywhere, and I've just been to LA. Restaurant options on HH are many but offer little variety beyond standard tourist fare. This place breaks the ho-hum mold. At the chef's suggestion I ordered the Brussels sprout burger with black beans and quinoa and a side of apricot almond coleslaw. All we'll prepared with attention to detail. Service was friendly but rudimentary. No points for presentation or style. Go for the food.

First, I have to say that it pains me to have to write a bad review of the Urban Vegan. Initially I was thrilled to see a vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Hilton Head--which is not very veg friendly. The decor was so bland -- plastic tables?! indoors?! -- and did not feel welcoming. We approached wondering if it was closed since it was deserted inside. The staff was ok, but not very friendly or personable. I was hoping for a warmer welcome since we planned our whole day to drive there. The food: I had a black bean quinoa bowl. It was edible but quite honestly I can and have made this better at home. It had no seasoning or flavoring despite being labeled as "chipotle lime." The tiny amount of seasoning was in a dollop of flavored vegan mayo on top. I LOATHE mayonnaise - regular or vegan! I wish the menu had specified this as I would have ordered w/o it. Overall the menu over-promised and under-delivered. My hubby had eggless egg salad and commented several times on how salty it was. He basically said he endured the experience because he loves me. I was so excited for this spot and just felt sad when I left. It is a perfect example of giving vegan food a "bad name." I have been veg for nearly 20 years and know the difference between delicious and disappointing. UV has potential...they could be a really great destination for plant-based eaters but they have a long way to go to achieve that.

I don't write reviews, but I need to warn fellow vegans that know to cook and like good eats. I'm Latin American and excuse my spelling but I can't find words to describe how dissatisfied I am. Place looks deserted. Should've listened to my 16 year old son not to enter. I ordered Ruben burger and it was just two big potato patties with some cabbage and not well seasoned. My husband had crab cakes, i only can say Bad, not good at all. I ordered mango smoothie with flaxseed and they brought a green stuff made of protein powder. Tested as... Cheap protein powder no fruits at all. Then I exchanged for a strawberry smoothie and I received a mix of water lots of ice and maybe four strawberries. They charge"d 6 dollars for it!! Total paid 36 plus for a meal that I disliked . Went to whole foods store to satisfy my hunger. Beware and go if you want; but you are warned.

I can't believe a tourist location has such an amazing vegan restaurant!! It was hard to decide what to order because everything looks so delicious. I ordered the special which was a Brussels sprouts burger - AH-may-zing! We also ordered the pop-pop cauliflower appetizer which is a must-have!! The waiter, Joe, was the friendliest guy!! Love this place!

Good choice for vegans on Hilton Head but little competition. 'Crab Cakes' good but under cooked. One woman operation so she can get overwhelmed but overall a good experience. Wish we had eaten outside. Will go back if we have time.

Fellow Vegs: You know the excitement that courses through you when you find out there is a vegan restaurant in an area that is not exactly vegan friendly? The idea that you can eat more than fries or salads? Yup, that's how my sister and I felt on our way to this place. I'm from LA, lived in NYC, grew up in Ohio. I've had amazing and terrible vegan food. This goes down as some of the worst I've had. I'm so grateful for the option, but wish they'd make an effort to have good vegan food - not just vegan food. If you're vegan/vegetarian, you're better off heading out to get some Thai or Italian food on the island. This place is neither healthy nor tasty. It's deep fried veganess hidden in a gluten free package. I'd rather save my calories for a big bowl of delicious pasta. (On another note, service was pretty bad, too. But if the food was good, I wouldn't care if the service was good or not).

Vegan/vegetarian food in the south? Who knew! Excellent burgers and sides. We'll be coming back.

Good tasting vegetarian and vegan food from folks who are knowledgable and sincere vegans. I felt 'better' after dining, more energetic. We had crab cakes which were excellent. The staff recommends the best tasting dishes if you ask. Not fancy, more like a cafe with windows all around. Located in a lovely area of restaurants and stores on the water. You can't see much from the restaurant but walk around after you eat! PS our son does not like vegan food so he went to the seafood restaurant just outside!

Found this place in one of those free little magazines. Crab cakes, corn bread, cole saw, and choc cake - all amazing. Ordered as take out and waited at the bar. Service was quick and friendly. Spoke to a guy who eats there all the time who recommended the crab cakes and they were excellent!
